to Manuscript Collection KHS has a state-of-the-art storage facility for its archive. Documents, photographs, scrapbooks, postcards and other 2-dimentional artifacts are stored under strict environmental control in a sprinkler and alarm protected unit:
KHS maintains a large and diverse collection of materials relating to Kennebec County communities. The collections currently include: A library of more
than 1500 volumes on Augusta, the Kennebec Valley, Maine history and
genealogy Manuscripts including those of 19th century historians Charles E. Nash and James W. North
Scrapbooks dating from the mid-19th through 20th centuries. More than 200 bound Augusta newspapers c. 1825-1900. Approximately 20,000 photographs of people, places and events Augusta Historic Buildings Survey of more than 900 properties. 1938 WPA tax photographs of Augusta properties. A postcard collection that has been partially catalogued. The 325 catalogue entries include messages and addresses for mailed cards.
